Conditions & Terms of Internet Use

For Adults

As of July 1, 2004, Peoples Library provides filtered access to the Internet (as detailed on the attached CIPA section of our Internet policy). The library also provides access to electronic services, such as e-mail and selected informational resources.

  1. Any Peoples Library cardholder in good standing, eighteen years or older, may apply for Internet Access. The applicant may be asked to show proof of age. Peoples Library card holders less than 18 years old in good standing may apply for Internet access with the consent of Parent or Guardian, who is a patron in good standing.

Loss of library cardholder in good standing status will result in the cancellation of Internet access. This status may result from any unpaid fines, inappropriate use of the computers or not complying with the Peoples Library behavior policy.

  2. Adult patrons who use the Internet at Peoples Library should be aware that Peoples Library has no control over the content of this research tool, does employ the use of filters on all Internet terminals and does not assume responsibility for its content, quality, accuracy, or currency.

  3. This is a free service with limited capacity. Please be courteous of other users and observe the following rules.
    • Use is limited to one-hour sessions with a maximum of two hours per day.
    • The use of abusive, threatening, obscene, or harassing remarks is prohibited.
    • Files may not be stored on library computers.
    • Due to security restrictions, patrons may not download or upload to and from disks or other storage devices except on designated computers. Inserting any storage device into a library workstation other than a designated computer is cause for immediate termination of access privileges.
    • Patrons may not alter system parameters, degrade or disrupt system performance. Acts of vandalism will not be tolerated and users will be responsible for damage to the system resulting from deliberate and willful acts.
    • Use of the Internet must be appropriate for a public library setting reflecting educational and informational purposes. Online access to sites that contain or make reference to explicit sexual materials as defined in 18 Pennsylvania Code; Sect 5903 (relating to obscene and other sexual materials and performances) is prohibited. Use of said sites shall result in immediate suspension or revocation of privileges.
    • Computer hacking or other unlawful activities or the inappropriate use of chat rooms, instant messaging or the inappropriate use of other forms of direct electronic communication will result in the immediate suspension or revocation of computer privileges.
    • In the event that an Internet search is blocked because of network security reasons, (i.e. the detection of spy-ware, trojans, viruses, worms, etc.), the staff is prohibited from overriding the filter, antivirus or spy-ware protective measures that are installed on our network.

  4. Please see the attached (CIPA) Children’s Internet Protection Act section of our Internet policy.
